A Prayer to my Guru

Om Agyaana-timi-raan-dhaasya,
Gyaan-naan-jana-shalaa-kayaa
Chak-shur-rumilitam yena,
Tasmai Sri Guruve Namaha

I bow down before my Guru who has opened my inner vision by removing the utter blindness of ignorance, with the help of the salve of knowledge.

Om Mantra Satyam Puja Satyam Satyam devo Niram-janah
Gurur-vaakyam sadaa Satyam Satya-meva Param Padam

Mantra is true, Puja is true, Gurudeva’s words are forever true, and the Lotus Feet of the Almighty are true indeed

Om Akhanda-mandala-kaaram Vyaaptam
Yena Chara-charam, Tat-padam Darshita Yena
Tasmai Sri Guruve Namaha, Tasmai Sri Guruve Namaha

I bow down before Gurudev who has revealed to me the Lotus feet of the Almighty are true indeed

Om Pitri-maatri-suhrid-bandhu-vidyaa-tir-thaani devataa
Na Tulyam Gurunaa Seegram Spar-shayet-paraam padam

Father, mother, companion, friend, learning, holy places and the Gods, cannot be compared with Sri Gurudev who is competent to put in touch with the Almighty instantly

Om Gurur-Brahma Gurur-Vishnu Gurur-Devo Maheshwara
Gurur-sakshat Para-brahm Tasmai Sri Guruve Namaha

The Guru is the personification of Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara. He Himself is the Parabrahma, the Highest God. Salutations to my Guru!

Om Dhyaana-mulam Gurur-murti, Pooja mulam Gurur Padam
Mantra mulam Gurur vaakyam, Moksha mulam Gurur Kripa

The object of meditation is the Guru’s form. The object of worship is the Guru’s feet. The object of mantra is the Guru’s word. Through the Guru’s grace we only achieve Liberation.

Om Brahmaa-nandam Parama-sukha-dam
Kevelam Gyaana-murtim
Dvandaa-titam Gagana-sadrisham
Tattva-masyaa-dilakshyam

Thou art eternal bliss, source of infinite happiness, the only representation of infinite knowledge, beyond all controversies, just like the infinite horizon and the aim of Absolute Knowledge

Om Ekam Nityam Vimalam-achalam
Sarvadaa Saakshi-bhutam
Bhavatitam Triguna-rahitam Sad-Gurum tam Namaami

I bow down before Sri Gurudev, who is One, Eternal, Purest, Immovable, Omnipresent, beyond all changes and above all the three qualities

Twameva Bandhu Cha-Sakha Twameva
Twameva Vidyaa Dravinam Twameva
Twameva Sarvam Mama Deva-deva

Thou art my mother, father, friend and companion. Thou art my learning, wealth and everything! O Lord of Gods!
